Not Going To Happen –
With each passing year, E3 just gets crazier and crazier. From entirely new consoles to small indie titles, tons of game related news always pours through the three-day event in Los Angeles. E3 2015 should be no different and many are expecting big things this year. Will Nintendo announce their next console or new mobile strategy? Will Microsoft actually announce a JRPG? Will Sony redesign the PS4 with a price drop? We will find out in the middle of June 2015, just a couple weeks away.
Below are some predictions from each of the major players: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.
Nintendo:
Seeing how the Wii U sales have been sluggish and mobile gaming is invading the 3DS landscape, Nintendo will announce they are going to shift away from video games completely and just make amiibos – their new gold mine. With pretty much each amiibo selling out before it can even hit store shelves, Nintendo will continue to milk this cash cow for as much and for as long as they can.
You know about the hundreds of trophies in the latest Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS? Well Nintendo will make an amiibo for each and every one of them. And you know what the best part is? They won’t actually do anything or be used with any game. But people will gladly laid down $12.99, wait in line for hours, and sit at their computers F5’ing until they Catch’em All. Looking forward to the next Metroid or that Pokemon MMO? Forget about it. But here, enjoy this Thwomp amiibo instead.
They will also dip into forgotten franchises and turn those into amiibo too. Personally, I am looking forward to the Star Tropics amiibos but will still buy the Clu Clu Land and Urban Champion wave even those I hate those games. Kung Fu might be cool though.
Microsoft:
When the Xbox One launched, Microsoft put all their chips on the success of Kinect 2.0. After seeing the negative response and lack of developer support, Microsoft was quick to back track and remove the fancy camera from their console which resulted in a lower and much more affordable price point.
That is why Microsoft will announce Kinect 3.0 at E3 2015. Kinect 3.0 will be so advance that you won’t even need it. Want to turn your Xbox on by speaking to it? Sure, you can try but it will either not work at all or will turn off when someone says “Xbox” on a TV commercial. Or would you rather jump up and down in front of your TV like an idiot while not having fun? Of course you don’t. That is why Kinect 3.0 will be the best purchase you never buy.
Sony:
You have to give Sony credit. They tried to fight Nintendo’s firm grip on the handheld market with the PSP and Vita. While the PSP saw many revisions and mild success, the Vita has struggled since day one. Sony has learned from their mistakes and will announce Vita 2.0 (title tentative) at E3 2015.
Because Sony thinks they understand what gamers want in the portable space, their next handheld will feature proprietary memory cards that cost just as much as the system, will only release subpar games, have a 35 minute battery life, and will add an additional two or three more analog sticks, you know, because games.
