Nintendo should be pleased with the success of their headlining portable. Nintendo has announced a milestone for the Nintendo DS system – 21 million units sold worldwide since launch.

The Nintendo DS launched in November 2004, and has had a blistering 19 months on the shelves. Nintendo has calculated that the Nintendo DS has sold at 23 systems every minute. That is nearly one DS being sold every two seconds.

“We attribute this success to Nintendo's overall strategy of offering something for everyone,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, “from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day."
