Introduction
Astrokill is an upcoming action game where players will fight in space, piloting gunships, interceptors and fighter ships. The game is currently available as a Steam Early Access title and can be purchased for just $10. This realistic space shooter features both first and third person combat, with both campaign and survivor modes.
Gameplay
It’s a space shooter, so you will shoot it out from a spaceship with realistic zero-G controls powered by directional thrusters. You will use awesome weapons, like flak cannons, homing missiles, machine guns and rail guns.
Pilot a fighter, gunship or interceptor to take down enemies, which include outposts, freighters, turrets, capital ships, squads, and space mines. Yeah, it’s quite the variety of space enemies, isn’t it? Astrokill features these cool anti-gravity shields that repel projectiles, making space combat cooler than ever before.
When you think of a space shooter, you might think of the classics, 2D scrolling shooters. However, Astrokill shows us what space combat can be, and the Early Access version is a steal at only $10.
The only con so far, is the controls. They take some time to get used to, but once you’re used to the controls you won’t find yourself complaining about them anymore. Astrokill does in fact support a gamepad, but most players claim the keyboard/mouse combo provides a better experience. Still, it’s nice to know the option to use a gamepad is there.
If you’re interested in the story then the Campaign mode won’t disappoint, you will pick a faction to join before entering the campaign mode. The Survival mode is arcade-style, which is fun, but you might want to start with the campaign mode to master the controls first.
Graphics and Visuals
Astrokill is one of the most beautiful PC games you can play right now with a space theme. The planets in the background look realistic, and the detail throughout your environments is impeccable. For those with a nice gaming rig, this game will put it to good use! The screenshots and gameplay videos will give you a hint at how realistic the graphics are in this game. They have recently updated the game with more planets in the background and I can’t think of a space-themed video game with better visuals.
Conclusion
Not everyone can play Astrokill, you will need to meet the minimum system requirements, which consist of a 3.2 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, and a AMD Radeon 6800 or better graphics card. The Early Access game is great, but the final launch will feature a lot more content so it is still something to look forward to. It’s good for even the biggest space nerds out there who can’t stand cheesy fake simulations, as Astrokill’s propulsion system is based on Newtonian physics and it’s about as realistic as a video game can be.
The official launch with feature a significant amount of more game content, from campaign levels to new ships and characters. Any known bugs will be fixed, and it’s possible that we will see some new features. As of now, the Early Access has three game modes that you can play; Survival, Campaign and Practice.
According to the developer, the full version should launch 3-6 months after the Early Access version launched, and that launched in May 2016.
