Buena Vista Games announced this past week it's acquisition of the award winning Climax Racing game from Climax Group Ltd. This acquisition is important to BVG as this is the 3rd in house studio, and the first in Europe, to add more muscle to BVG's development arm. The other two are Propoganda Games, which operates out of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Avalanche Studios which has it's head offices in Salt Lake City Utah. This latest acquisition will allow BVG to begin to add high end racing titles to it's repertoire. No details on the deal have been released, say that is to occur sometime this month. Representatives from both companies, however, did release statements to the press on what they felt about this deal.
Graham Hopper, who is both the Senior Vice President and General Manager for BVG, stated that this deal with Climax Group Ltd will allow them to “…both reach into new genres and new markets for creative talent” and that “adding Climax Racing to our creative family will provide an additional catalyst for our continued growth in the video games market. Karl Jeffery, the founder and CEO of Climax Group Ltd, said only that BVG's acquisition of Climax Racing was “an ideal component of BVG’s expanding portfolio of development talent.”
This is certainly true as the studio and it's products have earned numerous titles and nominations for awards including four “Best of Show” awards at E3 2006 from IGN. Tom Beckwith, the co-founder of Climax Group Ltd and the new vice president and general manager of Climax Group Ltd, stated that “This promises to be a mutually beneficial relationship and we believe that together we will make outstanding games for the next generation and beyond.” So, everyone seems satisfied all around..if you'd like more information on either company you can visit Buena Vista Games's site here at www.bvg.com and Climax Group Ltd's site at www.climaxgroup.com.
