In recent days, Sony and Microsoft have made the PS3 and Xbox 360 more affordable options for gamers looking to buy a new console.
As of September 1st, 2009, a new model Sony's Playstation 3 will be available for $299 dollars, with the new, streamlined version of the console. This 100 dollar price drop on the new version of the console is accompanied by a price drop on existing versions of the system, with the 80 GB models now costing $299 and the 160 GB models now priced at $399. The two pre-existing models of the PS3, however, will be discontinued once the existing stock is depleted.
Not to be outdone by Sony's price cuts, Microsoft has announced a reduction in the Xbox 360's price. This price cut applies to both the Pro version of the console, with the price falling to $299 as of August 30th. With both price cuts set to take effect well before the holiday season, the console wars can be expected to be quite competitive in the months to come.
