Cubemen 2 (PC) Review
This review is for the PC version of Cubemen 2, however it is available on other platforms and the Wii U version is going to be released soon. Why does that matter? Because Cubemen 2’s online multiplayer is cross-platform, and people on the Wii U will be playing against PC players. This is not a huge deal to the average gamer, but it makes a difference for the developers, allowing them to save money. Cubemen 2 can currently be played on the PC, Mac, Linux, and both the iPhone and iPad.
Cubemen 2 is a real-time strategy game in 3D, with both single player and multiplayer game modes to keep you entertained for hours. The game allows six players to battle in either Solo or Team battles, which can be fought against other people online or AI. Basically, everyone wants to get a good global ranking, and even the single-player defense Campaigns help you increase your global ranking.
If you like Tower Defense games and RTS games then you will love Cubemen 2, because it is a perfect mix between the two subgenres. Capture the Flag, Territory, Skirmish, Rescue, and more. There are two defense campaigns to play and as of now there are over 4,000 community created levels you can play. There is a lot going for this game and it can definitely keep you busy for hours as the non-stop action gets a nice change of pace between all the different game modes. Yes, they are all fun!
The online multiplayer experience is what makes this game so great, and it’s not even just the gaming part that makes it work – but the overall interface and game lobby is just easy to navigate. You can host a game or join another person’s game in just seconds, and since it is cross-platform multiplayer, there is always plenty of people online.
Tired of using squared objects to build stuff on Minecraft, yet? Well, build a level on Cubemen 2 with the built-in level editor, so you can make your own levels, share them and play them with others. It is very easy to use like they say it is, and the levels get stored on your device so you can play them offline whenever you want.
Overall, the gameplay is fun and competitive. There are online ranking for each game mode, so you are always competing with other players, from all devices, around the globe. There are nine types of units you can play with, such as mines, freeze lightning and path blockers. The Cubemen are not static and you can attack and defend as you please. The units are also customisable, and you can literally get unit skins to make them look like Luchadores, Cowboys and even Knights. The graphics could certainly be better, as the visuals are kind of plain and get boring fast. Still, Cubemen 2 is an excellent game and its only about $7 so you might as well try it when you get the chance!
