Many RTS titles have been released to the general audience this year. With such titles like, Age Of Mythology, Rise of Nations, and Command and Conquer, it sometimes can prove as a task to make a new RTS that will turn heads.
Empires: DotMW is an RTS that puts you in the heat with medal on medal action that will have you make the decisions on how you may prosper or burn in the woeful ashes of defeat. Decisions will have your sweaty palms slipping off your mouse and having you grabbing tissues.
Gameplay
With every RTS there has to be the fundamentals: food, gold, wood. These ever needed materials build whatever is soon to be of your town/village. EDotMW gives all of these main prospects with added goodies included. The great thing with RTS titles is, that even a first timer could grow and get good on the game. Mainly all you have to do is Train your ? villies’, make them gather enough resources to build and watch it grow from there. After your team as slaved of enough to get to advance in the next time period, just point and click, mixed with a few minutes of patience, your final product is a nice juicy advancement! Once you hit the appropriate age you will be asked to which side you will be choosing which side to stride the battle out. Which is another great thing that Empires have that others don’t that you will have the choice to have up to 30,000 units. The usual RTS will let you have anywhere from 1/5 of that population.
With almost every RTS, you are able to play online. If you have a dial up modem, you shouldn’t have to worry about lagging and that sort, until you reach a limit of population of about 200 or so. With DSL or Cable you won’t start reaching problems until about 300 or so( give or take a few). If you are short on time and can’t tolerate a 2 hour game you can choose a quick game that will be full of all action and no bore. With many modes and tons of extras to choose from, Multi player is another plus in my book.
Sound
Average sound will not be letting you have ?the experience’. It sure is a good thing that you will not be concentrating on this matter, you will be too busy thinking out your next movement, then noticing the bomb shatter and the constant overhaul of gun fire. This is a section that could use a little more creation. Over all not a single RTS title introduced in the year of 2003 has brought me joy.
Graphics
If you were to stand the Age of Empires game graphics and Empires,it should dawn on you that they are very similar. A 3D game with a 2D gloss. It has a beautiful finish that will have you coming back for more. With great placement of the surroundings and the luscious fore&back grounds, making your way will not be a hard task. The reflections of airplanes and random objects in the air off the water is another masterpiece with Empires.
Replay
There are two types of games that are notorious for having an extremely high rating in the replay department, and that is the RTS and FPS categories. They both offer too much to do in one serving of the game, and Empires: Dawn of the Modern World is no exception. With a random map generator, you can have fun winning or losing against the A.I., or going against friends online or on a network, the possibilities of beating you enemy are only in your mind.
Final Thoughts
This is one of the best RTS, that has come across these eyes. With great graphics, sound, gameplay, and awesome Replay, you will not get bored of this game. I could recommend Empires to any RTS fan that is looking for a great challenge and fun. With optimized gaming options and resolution settings, it will run smooth on most systems, so good news for a lot of people. Believe me, this has been a great time reviewing this game, it has brought me my share of joy for the day!
