Introduction
Dead by Daylight is an upcoming horror game where four players are being hunted by a maniac killer, similar to something you would see in a Friday the 13th movie. With the launch coming soon, you might be wondering if Dead by Daylight is worth buying, and that’s exactly what this article will help you find out. It’s a PC game launching on Steam and other distribution channels June 14th for only $19.99.
Developed by Behaviour and published by Starbreeze, Dead by Daylight is in closed beta now and has been since May 29th. Since the finished game is launching so soon you might not want to waste your time with the beta, but at least you have the opportunity to review gameplay footage and see if it’s worth the twenty bucks.
Gameplay
Dead by Daylight is basically a horrific version of hide-and-seek, where you and three friends are trying to escape and/or hide from the killer. When playing as a victim you won’t be able to do much but run and hide, as we know you will not be able to attack the crazed murderer, and you definitely don’t want to get close enough to do anything physical to him.
Instead, players will be able to earn perks, allowing them to increase their chances of survival with the help of items like medkits.
When the killer spots you that adrenaline rush will kick in IRL as you attempt to outsmart him and get away. Which way should you go? Making the wrong turn or going where he expects you to go will greatly reduce your chance of survival.
If the killer catches a friend, you can make an attempt to save him or her, but don’t be surprised when he shows up to kill you both. Yes, the killer can use one of you as bait, and I am sure there are other tricks that can be used to draw out the ‘victims’.
The gameplay will be exciting as you make an attempt to flee from a killer who wants to impale you and your friends as if it’s some kind of sacrifice to the gods. The victims will play from a third-person perspective, while the killer has to hunt them down in first-person view. This makes things interesting, as the victims have a slightly larger view of their surroundings, but clearly the advantage is small, or non-existent for those who hate third-person view.
Visuals
Dead by Daylight may have impressive graphics and look awesome on your gaming rig, but it’s dark and ugly at the same time. What I mean by ugly is that there isn’t anything nice about this game’s visuals. It’s a horror game and it definitely provides players with a horrific experience in a horrific environment.
Due to the gory nature of this game, it is specifically for a mature audience who can handle the sight of blood.
Conclusion
Dead by Daylight is arriving to Windows PC on June 14th, and if it proves itself a success there, the developer will bring it to consoles as well (they would like to – this is not guaranteed). It’s an interesting co-op multiplayer game and for only $20 on Steam I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to give it a try. For a little more money you can get the deluxe edition, but both can be pre-ordered on Steam now.
If you’re a fan of the horror genre then you can’t miss it! The visuals make it feel like you’re in a horror movie and the gameplay looks very intense. If you have played the closed-beta and have anything you can share about the gameplay then please leave a comment below!
