Glu Mobile today announced plans to bring Diner Dash 2 to mobile phones around the world. This will be Glu?s third title developed and published through its multi-year, worldwide partnership with PlayFirst, Inc., a leading publisher of casual games.
Diner Dash 2 is the sequel to the mega-hit Diner Dash, which launched on mobile in early 2006 and has been a critical and commercial success for Glu. The title has consistently been a top-seller with well over one million people purchasing and downloading the mobile game since its launch, and it has received multiple awards including IGN.com?s award for the best puzzle game of 2006.
?Thanks to the work that PlayFirst has done on the PC and our success with the original mobile version of the game, the Diner Dash franchise is one of the biggest hits in the casual gaming industry,? said Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing, Glu. ?For all the people out there craving seconds on their mobile Diner Dash experience, we?re excited to let you know that Diner Dash 2 will be coming to phones this fall.?
According to a recent report jointly published by the Casual Games Association and DFC Intelligence, approximately 60 million casual game downloads occur each month, and by 2008, the casual game market is estimated to reach $1.5 billion in worldwide revenue, up from $700 million in 2005.
?Glu?s exceptional capabilities in bringing our games to cell phones have extended the reach of Flo and the Diner Dash franchise into the pockets of people everywhere, helping to build Diner Dash into the casual gaming phenomenon that it is today,? said Rich Roberts, vice president of business development of PlayFirst. ?The original title proved to be a perfect game for the mobile platform and users should be excited to know that a sequel is on its way.?
