Sony Computer Entertainment topped off their E3 pre-conference show by displaying the PlayStation 3 console. The next-generation console comes in a sleek white model, as well as both silver and black. Also, like the PS2, the new console can be placed either horizontally or vertically. The logo lettering of the PS3 mimics that of the recent Spider-Man 2 movie title.
It has been confirmed that the console will be backwards compatible with both the PS2 and PSOne, as well as using Blu-ray for its medium. The controllers are wireless, using Bluetooth technology, and one console can support up to 7 controllers. The PS3 will display games in high-definition up to 1080p resolution and support 2 high-definition outputs simultaneously. The console also comes with built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g.
But perhaps most importantly of all, the PlayStation 3 will be coming to eager gamers in the Spring of 2006.
