With four games, a series of books and over 6 million subscribers playing online, Blizzard has finally decided to take the Warcraft franchise to the big screen.
Legendary Pictures, the producers of such films as “Batman Begins” and the upcoming “Superman Returns,” announced today a deal with Blizzard to create a live action Warcraft movie. Despite the notoriety attached to video game inspired movies, Legendary Pictures claims the movie will be a big-budget film in the vein Lord of the Rings that will appeal to more than the game’s already legion fans.
"We try to make big, epic, immersive games at Blizzard, and we have a track record of making some of the best games in the world," Paul Sams, Blizzard's chief operating officer, said in an interview. "Similarly, our goal is to make one of the best films in the world. With Legendary, they have a creative and management team that is so attuned with us it was like we were separated at birth."
Later this week, Blizzard is expected to reveal details on the new expansion to World of Warcraft, titled The Burning Crusade.
