Introduction
Falling Skies is a sci-fi drama TV show from TNT, set in a post-apocalyptic world where aliens have conquered earth and left the rest of mankind in a dangerous situation. It is uncommon for a movie or TV show game to become a huge success, and it does not look like this game will be a huge hit either. If it can carry the story over onto a game and do it well, then it might just be something special after all, but we will have to wait and see. The game is expected to come out for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.
Bringing the storyline into a video game…
The humans left on earth are basically trying to survive, while eliminating the alien threat as much as possible so they can rebuild. According to Matt Scott, President of Little Orbit, they are attempting to “recreate the humanistic elements from the television series” so the game will definitely have a great storyline as it is brought over from the television series.
Matt Scott also mentioned that they “want to bring that same character driven storyline derived from the series to the game all while making it easy to navigate for every player.”
The TV show writers did well on the character development and storyline, so let’s hope the game does not disappoint in other areas! The game will take place between seasons three and four, so as of now we don’t exactly know what to expect from the storyline.
What we know about the game so far…
Hundreds of equipment upgrades and character skills will be featured in Falling Skies: The Game. It is in fact a tactical strategy RPG, with turn-based fights against aliens. We know that the militia will work to fight off aliens in squads of four people, and you will be able to control them during the turn-based fights. During a fight you will likely move the people in your squad to the safest place possible where they can get cover from the alien attacks, as once they die they don’t come back.
Dispatch missions are something to look forward to as well, so you can put your soldiers to use by sending them out on sidequests. The sidequests are basically a way for you to get more resources, and some have compared the dispatch missions to the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood sidequests.
Conclusion
Critics don’t think Little Orbit will deliver, as the game looks almost identical to XCOM: Enemy Uknown. The game publisher claims that Falling Skies: The Game has only built upon the XCOM game from 2012, but it doesn’t look like they’ve made any ground-breaking improvements. Right now there is not a release date so we don’t know how long the wait will be, maybe a successful season 4 will make them want to release it faster.
