Introduction
Ever wanted to go back 12,000 years in the past? The upcoming action-adventure game Far Cry Primal will take you to the Stone Age as an unarmed hunter named Takkar. Primal isn’t coming out until March of next year so we can expect more details about the game to be revealed as we get closer to the release date. Still, I thought it would be good to put everything we currently know into one article. Keep reading for all the latest details regarding Far Cry Primal…
Setting
12,000 years before now puts the game somewhere in the beginning of the Mesolithic period. Set in a fictional place called Oros, the open world will feature many extinct animals, such as mammoths and saber-toothed cats.
With creatures like that all around you, survival becomes a constant challenge, especially for Takkar, who is a hunter stranded in Oros. The location is basically a valley that used to be covered in ice. Takkar is stranded there without any weapons or other vital resources after his hunting party was ambushed.
Takkar has mastered the art of taming animals and goes on a mission to lead his own tribe with this new-found skill.
Gameplay
Expect a big change in Primal, as the traditional gunplay and vehicle gameplay experienced in the previous Far Cry titles has been removed. In Primal, you will fight with spears, axes, clubs, bows and other melee weapons. Crafting is also a necessity, as you will not be able to purchase weapons.
Since crafting is the only way to acquire weapons, you will have to do a good amount of scavenging in order to create weapons and survive. Wood, bones and stone are some of the common materials that will be used to create weapons.
Primal will task players with things like hunting for food and learning to create fire. As players progress through the game they will have to craft better weapons, which will of course require more resources.
Takkar can tame animals, which essentially helps him rise to power and become the leader of his own tribe. When you get the chance and become a leader, you will have to go against other tribes and attempt to get rid of them. Protecting your tribe members is expected to be an important part of the game.
The day-night cycle is similar other games, and enemies will become more dangerous at night. To protect yourself and hunt throughout the night you will have to use fire.
Taming animals is basically done by giving them food to eat. In the game, you will be able to tame saber-tooth tigers, wolves, woolly rhinos, mammoths, cave lions, elk, and cave bears. Throughout the game you will use these animals to help you during combat, and they will serve as valued companions on your journey.
For instance, your pet owl will help you by scouting for enemies using it’s owl vision. Each of your tamed animals can be given commands, and they all have different behaviors, allowing you to use them strategically.
