Some news from Louisiana today; it's being told to spend some serious money. Who is telling them to do this, exactly? Well, in particular, it's a federal judge who told the state to fork out roughly $100,000 in costs accumulated by two law firms that were guarding the legal interests of the Entertainment Software Association and the Entertainment Merchants Association. The reason of all these stacks of money that have piled up is due to the law that was filed that would stop legal minors from buying or renting games that contained violence. U.S. District Judge James Brady finally brought the hammer down, and you know you saw that one coming, and said the law was unconstitutional.
Therefore he ruled that the state of Louisiana must pay for the legal fees that resulted in this legal hooplah. In total there are 12 lawyers that must be paid off: five from Jenner and Block of Washington, D.C who will receive $38,862 and seven from Liskow and Lewis in New Orleans who'll get $53,332. These lawyers get $115-$250 dollars per hour which, surprisingly to at least me, is less then the amount the firms originally asked for which ranged between $!60 and $600 per hour which would have amounted to $145,871. The final fee was calculated by Judge Brady on the average fees in Baton Rouge which as 15 percent increase due to the fact that fees awarded in other cases similar to this have been higher.
