Gamer’s Gullet – Limited Edition Red Velvet Oreo Review
Something different
Tastes like cream cheese but it not cream cheese
You'd think it'd be sweeter...
Less quantity in one box
Not Cream Cheese… Cream Cheese Flavor. –
Oreo has been expanding their library of flavors over the last year or so, establishing new twists on America’s favorite cookie from birthday cake to lemon varieties.
You can read our review of the Berry Oreo HERE and even Chewy Chips Ahoy Oreo Crème HERE.
Fortunately, this Limited Edition Red Velvet Oreo fairs better than the medicine-like taste of the berry version. However, it doesn’t even come close when compared to the original model.
The big kicker here is the new cream as the packaging states “Cream Cheese Flavored Crème.” To be clear, this does not mean the cream has been replaced with actual cream cheese, but instead a cream cheese knockoff that is capable of sitting on shelves for months without spoiling. The red velvet sandwiching wafers also make a swap from the original version.
Punching the buyer in the nose with an overpowering cream cheese smell upon first opening the packaging, these red velvet Oreos are good but really nothing special. In fact, the smell has more emphasis than the taste. The combination of the red velvet wafers mixed with fake cream cheese filling might imply a sweeter taste. This is not the case as the overall composer of this sandwich cookie is sullied by an overall dull taste and slightly softer, not as crunchy, more cake-like texture. Not to be mistaken, it is a sweet cookie, just not as sweet as expected or as the original. Unlike the original, dunking these red desserts in milk doesn’t have the same effect either.
With 10% of your daily saturated fat found in just two cookies, you might want to think twice about putting a pair of these bad boys in your mouth.
What is also a little strange is the phrase “limited edition” found on the packaging, as if Nabisco knows they created a monster that should only be allowed to live for a short amount of time. Further, the packaging is much, much smaller than the original Oreo packaging that everyone is used to. The buyer gets about half the amount for around the standard price of $2.99. With only about 20 cookies in the box, some fans should be able to knock out this entire package in one sitting with ease. On the other hand, the thickness of the crème seems to be taller than an original Oreo but not as high as a double stuffed.
All Oreos are addicting, which is why they have been around forever, whether you really like them or not. They are Oreos after all. Like pizza, it is sort of hard to mess up… unless it is berry. Stay away from the berry.

Wow this looks great. Did you try them with milk or just straight up?
Thanks for the comment. While there is nothing really wrong with this red velvet model, the original Oreo is still the best, dunked or non-dunked.
I actually prefer the peanut butter ones though. Those are goooooood.
I don’t know if it’s because of my monitor but these just look…kinda brown…??? That being said, the sugar content leaves a lot to be desired…though damn is cream cheese good…
I took those pictures with my camera phone (the HTC One has the worst camera pretty much ever invented) so the color is a little off. But they do have a reddish tint to them. Also, it is not actual cream cheese, but rather, cream cheese flavor.
Man, I haven’t had an Oreo in ages! But reading this and looking at those pictures… I really want to go out and buy some (with milk of course!).
Anything that has ‘artificially flavored’ in bold letters in the front has got to be good haha. Those oreo brownies mentioned at the end sound like a match made in heaven, I should try those.
I just picked these up too. One word to describe the taste? Amazing. I enjoy red velvet cake as it is, but this takes it to the next level. Although the package is smaller than the original version, it is worth it. Just make sure not to eat too many like I did. Bad results.
That’s quite hillarious how much I like your reviews about food. Not only does the article include everything we need to know, after reading I can basically taste the food myself without even eating it. Great job Zachary!
Oreos have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. I could finish two stacks in one sitting. This one has really piqued my interest. I hope I don’t get diabeetus.
