Not Cream Cheese… Cream Cheese Flavor. –
Oreo has been expanding their library of flavors over the last year or so, establishing new twists on America’s favorite cookie from birthday cake to lemon varieties.

Fortunately, this Limited Edition Red Velvet Oreo fairs better than the medicine-like taste of the berry version. However, it doesn’t even come close when compared to the original model.
The big kicker here is the new cream as the packaging states “Cream Cheese Flavored Crème.” To be clear, this does not mean the cream has been replaced with actual cream cheese, but instead a cream cheese knockoff that is capable of sitting on shelves for months without spoiling. The red velvet sandwiching wafers also make a swap from the original version.
Punching the buyer in the nose with an overpowering cream cheese smell upon first opening the packaging, these red velvet Oreos are good but really nothing special. In fact, the smell has more emphasis than the taste. The combination of the red velvet wafers mixed with fake cream cheese filling might imply a sweeter taste. This is not the case as the overall composer of this sandwich cookie is sullied by an overall dull taste and slightly softer, not as crunchy, more cake-like texture. Not to be mistaken, it is a sweet cookie, just not as sweet as expected or as the original. Unlike the original, dunking these red desserts in milk doesn’t have the same effect either.
With 10% of your daily saturated fat found in just two cookies, you might want to think twice about putting a pair of these bad boys in your mouth.
What is also a little strange is the phrase “limited edition” found on the packaging, as if Nabisco knows they created a monster that should only be allowed to live for a short amount of time. Further, the packaging is much, much smaller than the original Oreo packaging that everyone is used to. The buyer gets about half the amount for around the standard price of $2.99. With only about 20 cookies in the box, some fans should be able to knock out this entire package in one sitting with ease. On the other hand, the thickness of the crème seems to be taller than an original Oreo but not as high as a double stuffed.
All Oreos are addicting, which is why they have been around forever, whether you really like them or not. They are Oreos after all. Like pizza, it is sort of hard to mess up… unless it is berry. Stay away from the berry.
