Gaming community steps up for MS Walk

One man’s desire to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis spills over into the gaming community.

Shawn “Kwip” Williams, the founder of NeenerNeener.net was moved to action when his wife, Becky “Kwipette” Williams, was diagnosed with MS. This year, Team NeenerNeener.net will be accompanied on the Walk by representatives from Mythic Entertainment and Turbine, Inc.

Team NeenerNeener.net participates in the annual fundraising event benefiting research for Multiple Sclerosis, and with generous support from the interactive entertainment industry, has raised more that $30,000 since 2001. The MS Walk 2005 is scheduled for April 17, 2005. Donations to Team NeenerNeener.net can be made at [a]http://www.neenerneener.net/ms.php[aa]their website.[/a]

“The first year, we expected to raise maybe $1,000,” says Shawn. “Instead, we raised more than $8,000 from gamers across the world who were used to reading the humorous stories, but instead found themselves moved by the touching tale of what Becky and I were going through in dealing with her MS.”

“The media tends to portray gamers in a negative, anti-social light, and the overwhelming support Team NeenerNeener.net has received shows how inaccurate this is. Every year, we have thousands of gamers stepping forward to donate what they can,” said Shawn. “This year’s support from game developers is even more proof that the gaming community is full of wonderful, caring people.”

Sanya Thomas, Internet Relations Manager for Mythic Entertainment is traveling from the Washington, DC area to join Team NeenerNeener.Net, and Jesse Kurlancheek, Nikolaus Davidson and Heather Sinclair, developers from Turbine, Inc., are traveling from Boston, MA.
