New Line Cinema has won the rights to produce a movie based off of the popular Xbox 360 game Gears of War. Stuart Beattie, who also worked on the Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx film Collateral, will pen the script. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce it under the Temple Hill name.
Gears of War, developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft, puts gamers in the role of Marcus Fennix, who must lead a band of soldiers against the underground race known as the Locust Horde. Since its debut in early November 2006, it has sold three million copies, and is the #1 game on Xbox Live.
The film is slated for a Summer 2009 release. We'll give you more info as it becomes available to us.
