Bigger. Stronger. Faster. –
A few months ago we were able to get our hands on Kingston’s innovated solution for external mobile data storage, their microDuo 2.0. Upping their game, Kingston has just released the upgraded 3.0 model that supports USB 3.0.
The big difference here is the new USB 3.0 support. Featuring much higher read and write speeds than USB 2.0, this upgraded microDuo should be able to handle pretty much anything you throw at it from a large amount of pictures to high res video. It is also important to note that USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 so do not hesitant to purchase this USB 3.0 model even though you have an older PC or won’t be upgrading to 3.0 for a while.
Even though this enhanced unit features the faster read/write speeds when connected to a computer, the rest of the unit is basically the same from the original 2.0 model. This new design sports a slightly more modern look with a darker color and jagged cap shape. However, it is pretty much the same size, still features the rotatable cap, and is available 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options. The 64GB option retails for around $30. The small size makes this unit very portable as it weights virtually nothing and is only about the size of a quarter.
Despite not having a pass-through option to allow for both simultaneous play and charging, this tiny device is a solid alternative for users without access to WiFi, the cloud, or want to load up on locally played Mp3s or plan on taking a lot of pictures/video when on vacation. Just keep in mind not every mobile device is compatible with this OTG (On-The-Go) unit but pretty the most popular Android devices should not have an issue using this DataTraveler. Also, some mobile devices might require the use of file exploring software but there are free options available on the Google Play store. This particular unit is backed by Kingston’s 5-year warranty with free tech support too.
Not As Good As: an unlimited 4G data plan with a large amount of cloud storage
Better Than: worrying about running out of space during your week long Hawaiian vacation
Also Try: other Kingston products
