Introduction
Lego Worlds is an upcoming sandbox game that gives players the freedom to create anything they can imagine. This might be Lego’s answer to Minecraft, and it won’t be surprising to see Minecraft fans and YouTubers playing Lego Worlds.
Traveller’s Tales Games head of production Jonathon Smith talked about the game in an official announcement, saying “players will go on an exciting journey to become a Master Builder in an open-ended world made completely of Lego-built environments”.
This upcoming Lego game will be released on March 7, 2017 for Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch will even get a release date later on. A beta version of Lego Worlds was launched on Steam early access on June 1, 2015, which has a 9/10 rating at this very moment.
Gameplay
If you read the introduction then you probably have a good idea of what the gameplay is like in Lego Worlds. It’s very much like Minecraft in many ways, but it has so much more going for it. For starters, it gives you the ability to customize more things, such as vehicles, helicopters, dragons, horses, etc.
There are many objects spread throughout the map and players will be rewarded with “studs” upon finding them – that’s the in-game currency.
There are different Worlds you can explore, and you will come across everything from vampires to cowboys and polar bears. You’ll be able to manipulate the World as you see fit using the multi-tool, or by entering the Brick-by-Brick editor to build something specific. Each time you create something you can save it to quickly build it again later.
Real-life LEGO sets, both classic and current, are featured in the game and you can use them to customize your World.
The developer will continue to add more content and features to the game through updates, so you will always be able to expand your LEGO World and create new things.
Early Access feedback has been mostly positive, with over 8,100 positive reviews and only 157 mixed reviews. They are all based on the beta version of Lego Worlds, which means the final release will be more improved and with more content.
Negative feedback does exist, and some players have criticized the game for giving you all the pieces you want at the start of the game and build castles with one click using the tools provided. The camera angle and using the Brick-by-Brick editor is another common complaint, and apparently Minecraft has a much easier interface for building brick-by-brick.
So that’s the good and bad about Lego Worlds so far! Hopefully the final release will feature improvements, but the majority of the early access players love the game as it is.
Conclusion
Lego Worlds looks more fun and dynamic than other similar sandbox games currently released. It has more engaging content and customization options than Minecraft, and it allows you to save your creations to use them in one click later on. It has some pretty awesome features and judging by the feedback on Steam, most people who play it will enjoy it.
If you want to play the Lego Worlds early access on your computer then head over to Steam, it’s only 14.99. Check out the trailer below for a video preview of the game!
