Well, lets see, what can I say about the most anticipated game for the last two years? GOD DAMN! This game is amazing, simply amazing, and anyone who tells you otherwise is just jealous that they don?ft have it. There?fs only one complaint you will hear from any gamer pertaining to this title (the original MGS suffered from this as well), that this game is too short. While this being the truth, I find it amazing how so many gamers could simply miss the point. Is it really not that obvious that Metal Gear Solid is a game that was intentionally crafted to be a short journey? Everything about this title and the original as well suggests, hints, and screams movie quality status. Why not the length be included in such a package? All that?fs besides the point, nevertheless this adventure will have you fiending to play more and more, in no time.
Metal Gear Solid 2 surpasses its predecessor in each and every way, shape, size and form. Simply an amazing addition to any gamer?fs collection. Not only does this game show the true power and promise of the ps2, but it also displays a clear level of innovation, hard work, and care. This game was crafted with the best ideas, and some of the best game designers, they combine to make a lethal combination. Its difficult to determine a place to start on what is easily the best game of the year.
Game play, as I?fm sure most of you are familiar with, MGS2 closely resembles its predecessor on the Playstation One. To a certain extent, the feel and ?elook?f of the game is similar, but similarities end there, as to be expected with any sequel. Everything in this title has been updated and improved which is a feat in itself. The controls are now more exact, to help you better identify with the imaginary world of a secret agent. Along with many added new abilities, and tactics, weapons, etc?c but the ultimate goal and focus of the game has remained the same. The one thing that has separated MGS from the rest of the pack, its main feature and emphasis, stealth. The goal here is not to kill as many people as possible, or to blow up things, but its to defeat the game, ?ewithout anyone ever noticing?f. Which to me is incredibly more exciting, while killing things has its short term thrills, defeating a game without killing a sole is a test of skill, a task of difficulty, and something that creates a more prominent feeling of accomplishment.
Once familiarized with the odd seemingly controls, you begin to realize how perfect they?fve been tweaked to play with the analog stick since the original. Its amazing how graceful you character becomes once you?fve mastered every element of control. However impressive this may seem, it?fs even more so, how the element of control is incorporated into the puzzle design. Taking not only brains, but controlled dexterity to complete tasks set before you. This gives Metal Gear a higher level of interaction between you and the game, you are also given a plethora of toys you are to accomplish certain tasks however you wish, an ingenious way of making this title more fun. The vast majority of tasks you need to complete can be accomplished in multiple different ways, setting Metal Gear once again in a league of its own.
Not only has MGS2 succeeded in its conquest for terrific controls, and great puzzle incorporation, but it also has an immaculate level of graphic design as well. The graphics in this game are everything you would have hoped for, perfect. From the textures, to the animation, to camera work, this title covers the complete spectrum of graphic design to perfection, something that is not likely to be equaled for a while (save FFX). From the moment you start your game, you?fll be in awe of the level of work and craftsmanship that?fs gone in to MGS2. The entire adventure is nothing but impressive. I could go on for hours about what you?fll see and how amazing it will look, but words do this game no justice. The fact of how beautifully rendered MGS2 is, is only surpassed by its scripting and storyline.
Double cross after double cross, with each buildup of suspense MGS2 will slowly begin to suck you in. You?fll be entertained from beginning to end, addicted to it like a fantastic book you can?ft put down. The feeling is something beyond words, simply a remarkable story line, enough said. After your first time through the only thing you?fll be able to say is, ?gWOW, I?fm doing that again.?h The story accomplishes something that normally only RPG?fs can compete with. A level of detail, character development, and subtly of addressing every advance in plot that can normally only accomplished through that of a long journey. But the people at Konami have now completed this task from an adventure that takes only a few hours. This movie (game) is something all will enjoy playing, not only surprising but exciting on the same note. If it weren?ft enough that the rest of the game was perfect; the score, in combination with the sound effects, and the voice acting just gives you (the player) an, ?eover the top?f feeling. The voice actors from the original MGS return to this game to create the same high level of acting we?fve all come to expect from the first title.
Metal Gear Solid, was acclaimed as the best title on the Playstation console, and with good reason. It showed an new level of innovation into video gaming, and here the same is done. The bar has been raised, there are truly so many impressive features in this game, it?fs not really feasible to discuss them in much detail in a short period of space. All I can say is play this game! Disappointment will be non-existent. It?fs simply astounding, just enjoy, this is an example of a perfect title, all ps2 doubters ?gplay and weep!?h at this games excellence. Even though this game truly can not be summarized to an amount that would do it any justice (for fear of ruining anything), what I can say is that, the wait was well worth it, thank you Konami.
