Microsoft and EA Sports have announced an Xbox Live FIFA Interactive World Cup tournament scheduled to run from October through December. As the world’s first ever FIFA sanctioned video game tournament, the player will also be able to sharpen their real-world soccer skills through various separate side activities. Players waiting for their turn in the tournament will be able to practice their moves with the help of professional soccer players.
“The FIFA Interactive World Cup tournaments will be a great day out for football fans everywhere,” said Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President, Retail Sales and Marketing, Xbox. “As well as experiencing the excitement of FIFA Football 2005 from EA and Xbox Live, contestants and their friends will find no shortage of other interactive and ‘real-life’ activities. Being named FIFA Interactive World Player 2004 is the ultimate in bragging rights and we know the competition will be fierce.”
The tournament kicks off in Germany, and the winners will advance to eight regional finals on six continents. The North American final will be staged in New York City, with the championship game to take place during the real FIFA’s annual World Player of the Year gala in Zurich, Switzerland. The winner will be named world champ and given a trophy presented by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
