Back when we previewed Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 for the Nintendo Wii,Tomy was very hush-hush when it came to the totally original, made-in-America story. Well, while they aren't completely opening the flood gates on the events, they are dropping lots of hints. In a press release sent earlier today, Tomy detailed how the often-present, but rarely-noticed ANBU will be the focus of the upcoming stories.
For those who don't know, while the Naruto series is known for its happy, colorful characters who are allegedly in the same class of soldier as Rikimaru from Tenchu or Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, the ANBU are actually what you'd expect a ninja to be (more or less). They fight in the shadows. Kill people. Cover things up. Wear masks. And have swords. Many of the main characters in the series, in particular Kakashi and Itachi, served in the ANBU, but their time with the group was not really elaborated on past their membership.
Because of this, a story focusing on the the group in any medium is a first. While the new characters haven't been totally, 100% confirmed, the blink-and-you-miss-her Yugao Uzuki is a definite addition to the cast. Those who have relentlessly watched the series will remember her as the girlfriend of Hayate Gekko (or Gekkou? Or Gekkou Hayate?), who died from a combination of the Consumption and being sliced in half by a Sand Ninja. Those who aren't die-hard fans of the series don't know who the hell she is. Either way, exclusive-to-America content is always welcome (at least it's more welcome than Japan-only content), and the other up-points of the game are worth keeping in-mind.
