Sony has recently cut the price of the PS3. The 80 GB PlayStation 3 will now cost $499, down from $599. This move eliminates the lower-end 60GB PS3 model, had been selling for $499. A new low-end model with a 40-gigabyte drive space will hit retail shelves on 11/2/2007 for $399, and come with a copy of the Blu-ray version of the movie Spider-Man 3. The system will also have built-in IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking capability.
It's not all great news though, as the cheaper PlayStations will have a lack of backwards compatibility, no memory-card readers, and will have only two USB 2.0 ports.
