Tetris is back and ready to throw a party for you and four of your closest friends. Too bad there’s already a cheaper version of this game on the market.
Back in the day of the original Gameboy and Nintendo Entertainment System, Tetris ruled with only one game mode and no multiplayer. Years later, clones and freeware versions flooded the market along with some new gameplay modes. Tetris Party Deluxe delivers the classic puzzle solving gameplay that everyone loves but takes it to that next level by throwing in a ton of gameplay options and new ways to play.
There are a ton of modes to choose from: Sprint, Vs Sprint, All Clear Sprint, Bombliss, Master, Co-op Vs Co-op and multiplayer battle. Sprint and it’s multiplayer variations are what you would expect from your hardcore Tetris play; clear a set number of lines as quickly as possible either by yourself or against two friends. Bombliss introduces bombs into the mix of Tetris that will explode and extend a chain if lined up correctly. Master is where players will find themselves questioning their own dedication to high level play. Pieces don’t fall they just appear and you only get enough time to move the piece around or rotate before it’s placed. Expect to lose several games before getting the hang of Master. Hoping on the multiplayer bandwagon, Tetris Party Deluxe offers almost all of the modes available in single player to play with up to 4 players local and up to 5 players over the net. Better get your friend codes ready. You can even play with gamers who own the WiiWare version.
Tetris Party Deluxe by no means looks horrible, but it lacks a high grade of appeal that will please your eyes while you drop blocks. Backgrounds do look interesting and might distract you from the bland block colors so it’s not all bad. The game sounds like you’ve come to expect from a Tetris game, with some pleasant music to calm your block breaking nerves.
Tetris Party Deluxe is also one of the very few games to support both the Wii Speak and the Wii Balance Board.
But if your Wii is connected to the internet, you are probably better off downloading Tetris Party for less than half the price – it is basically the same game found on this disc based version.
Either way, Tetris Party and Tetris Party Deluxe are high quality games and could offer a nice break from your stand Wii Sports parties.
