Namco, the makers of games such as Pac-Man, Soul Calibur, and Tekken has filed a lawsuit against rapper Lil’ Flip for copyright infringement in the song “Game Over”. According to the lawsuit filed in the US District Court, Southern District of New York, the company alleges that sounds from Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man were used on the original and remix versions of the song without permission.
Representatives from Namco haven’t been talking much about the case, but sources are saying that they are seeking some high figures in damages that could go as high as $10 million dollars. The lawsuit was previously filed for months before a federal appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio, and they ruled that artists should pay for any samples used, distinguishable or not.
“Game Over” is a song on Lil Flip’s latest album entitled “U Gotta Feel Me”.
