Nintendo recently revealed that the Revolution will be formally announced in May 2006, just before that year’s E3 event. There’s no word yet on exactly what this announcement will contain that wasn’t demonstrated 2005’s E3 and Tokyo Gaming Show, but the timing suggests that the console is planned for U.S. release before the end of 2006.
2005’s E3 and the TGS showed tantalizing details of the Revolution, the most notable being a back catalogue of classic Nintendo games that will be available and an innovative motion-sensing controller that looks more like a TV remote control. Word of Nintendo’s announcement comes as the XBox 360 has been sold out across the country shortly after relase and the PS3 is tentatively scheduled for delivery in Japan in Q1/Q2 of 2006.
