When the game first came out almost a decade ago, it capitalized on the rhythm game genre. So the fond memories people have of this series is understandable. The gameplay is a different story, however.
Everything that the game is lacking can entirely be seen in earlier and later games like a simple time bar with the inputs on it and a time based scoring system, which is much more difficult than it sounds.
Although the mechanics are amazingly dated, the game has an odd enough appeal to it from being too annoying. The price, on the other hand, is a bit steep. The game is out on Xbox Live, the version reviewed, for 10 dollars—even though the same exact game is out in retail with three other games bundled with it for 20: The Dreamcast Collection.
If this title had come out for five dollars it would be easy to recommend to anyone who has ever been interested in giving it a shot or has fond memories of it, but the $10 price tag is a bit too high for a casual download.
