Sega of America confirmed earlier tonight that it has sold all remaining assets of Visual Concepts to Take Two Interactive. Hot off the heels of Take Two’s [a]https://www.forumwizard.net/index.php?platform=homepage&publisher=&developer=&game=&page=globalnews&mode=viewnews&id=614&PHPSESSID=89050c327a8c723927e474056c450b60[aa]acquisition[/a] of the Major League Baseball license, the company cited their focus of entertainment properties as the reason for the move. All moves in the transaction are effective immediately.
“SEGA is proud that it has fostered such a strong and critically-acclaimed sports franchise,” said Hisao Oguchi, president, SEGA Corporation. “We remain committed to the North American market, focusing on delivering innovative products that are equally as profitable as they are desirable to the western gamer.”
“The ESPN Videogames line has not been a key profit driver in the North American market for SEGA,” said Naoya Tsurumi, CEO of SEGA of America. “While SEGA recognizes the strength and depth of the ESPN Videogames franchise, we must remain committed to growing content that will help boost revenues across all western territories.”
The total sale of Visual Concepts is approximately $24 million, and also includes developer Kush Games and the remaining properties of ESPN Videogames before they head off to Electronic Arts next year.
