Square Enix announced earlier this week that it will be making two games based on the cult-classic, Valkyrie Profile, for both the PSP and PS2.
The PSP will be receiving a remake of the original PS1 game, titled Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. The game will come with some improvements, mainly to the graphics and at least one new cinematic that will help tie the two games together. This game is set to launch on March 2nd 2006 in Japan, no word as to a North American or European launch.
The PS2 will be receiving a prequel, titled Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. The game is said to take place hundreds of years before the original and have a very different graphical style, but little else is known at this point. It is slotted for launch in 2006 in Japan and no word as to a North American or European launch yet.
Valkyrie Profile, a Playstation RPG, gained very little attention in the mainstream but was one of the more heavily sought after games by many hardcore gamers. Many gamers attempting to find a copy of the game have been thwarted by the low number in existence and the fact that most gamers were wise enough to hold on to their copy when they got it.
The game is heavily steeped in Norse mythology and has you controlling, or at least conversing with, many figures found within Norse mythology. You play the role of a Valkyrie whom has been given the task of reaping souls for the final battle: Ragnarok. Essentially meaning you have to balance who you keep in your party and who you send to help fight in the afterlife.
We will have a full preview for each game when more information becomes available.
