With details of Sony's online plans yet to be disclosed, an interview with SCEA's Sr. Director, Dave Karraker, has shed some light on the situation.
This past April, Viacom purchased the social networking service Xfire for $102 million. It was believed that Sony would use Xfire as part of the PlayStation Networking Platform, an alternative to Microsoft's Xbox Live.
In the interview, Karraker explained that Xfire had been in contact with Sony Online Entertainment, not SCEA. The discussions have been about a deal incorporating Xfire into the PS3 title Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, but not as a solution for the PlayStation Network Platform.
Although it is possible that a deal could be struck with Xfire, Karraker couldn't expand on any more details at the time. Stay tuned to MyGamer.com for more information as we receive it.
