Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon (PC) Review
Addictively fun
Fluid 2D animation
Great sense of humor
Very similar to Awesomenauts
Level objectives are not always clear
Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon is made by the same dev team that created Awesomenauts, and for anyone who played that game it is apparent from the moment that the title is started up. From the fluid 2D art styling, to the way that the towers play an important role in levels—the game has some of the same fundamentals. This is in no way to say that this is another 2D MOBA, as it plays different enough on many levels, with the player having more lose control over many units than full control over one, to make it more of a strategy game.
The strongest point of the game is definitely the visual fidelity; the way that all the actions flow and create one cohesive world for the player to interact with. From this launching point the game easily establishes itself with the tone of the humor and overall feel of the game. Simply by looking at the game one gets the impression of what can be generally expected from an experience inside. Mostly, the game does not leave the player wanting.

The only issue, though, is in some levels the objectives are somewhat unclear—as the game is an RTS when push comes to shove, and it falls into all the troupes as such—and while it might seem pretty straightforward on what the overall goal of that area is, it isn’t very clear on how that should be done with a limited amount of troops at that one moment. Granted, it is fine for the game to want to mix up levels every now and then, so things do not become stale, but from time to time those levels do miss the mark and the become rather noticeable in a rather fun game.
Shawarmageddon is a fun game, and something that easily lends itself to being played in short bursts—which is perfect for anyone who is looking for a small title that they can use to unwind with when they get home after work. While the game has some flaws, it mainly sticks true to the RTS roots and solid humor and delivers an enjoyable experience throughout. Anything that can be said negatively about the game can also be said about pretty much any RTS game that has ever come out, so for that are even passingly interested, this game is worth a buy.
