Activision and Neversoft never stop bringing great games. The Tony Hawks series has been masterfully crafted and been taken in with great hands. Tony Hawk”s Underground has undergone some chances for the better and has been introduced to a brand-new story line that will have you in the skater’s eyes.
Gameplay
This section of the game could go on for ever. Any Tony Hawk fan could tell you what this game is about, skating, skating, and more skating. THUG has brought new game to the table, and they brought it with style. When you look at a game at this magnitude you have to stop, and think, How do they do this? There has been a story mode that has been added. You start out with a wanna-be skater that has nothing but a piece of board and three dollars to his name. He eventually gets noticed by some of the well-known skaters by completing random goals and objectives. Making your way to the top can be proven tricky at some moments. Depending on which difficulty level you set it at, the missions will be harder and complex.
Hey, if you get tired of seeing the already built tracks, dont mope, make your own and skate it like it was heaven. If you would like to prove that you are better then your friend, you can play against them in two player modes with such games as, slap, trick attack, combo mambo, Graffiti, King of the Hill, and many more! THUG online play is also excellent, you get to play a few more games then the two player modes, but you also dont get Horse.
The creators also added some in game features like, you can get off your board and walk around town and get to high places that you couldnt get to with your board. If you feel like taking a stroll around town in the nearest car, get in and drive the puppy. I do have to mention that the cars physics isnt like Gran Turismo, this is a skating game, so it is ok that they don’t handle with stride. Jumping off your board can also get a lot more points on your score, when your doing a combo, just jump off your board and get to the nearest rail and jump back on and grind.
THUG has a library of tricks that can be mastered and created. Are you getting tired of hitting the same tricks over and over? Well they now have a feature where you can create you own tricks with other tricks. You can slow the tricks down and make them go faster, the way you want it.
Sound
With all the Tony Hawk games, sound has always been an A in my book. For each new Tony Hawk game released, the song selection has gotten better. Rap and rock are the main focus on titles, so if you need some boost to get a better score, play some rock, or if you are just strolling about the town, get some rap. Making your own play list is simple, just uncheck the titles you dont want to hear, and they wont be played. Sound effects are one of a kind, when you hit a rail, you can hear the metal on metal grinding, or when your walking on stone, you hear the foot steps. Voice overs are the biggest disappointment with THUG. They all sound like little kids with the exception of the pros. It just doesnt feel like you’re actually in the whole experience. With a few screw ups, THUG has the best sound available to the market, everything is great.
Graphics
In every TH game, there has been an upgrade in everything, sound, graphics, gameplay. Graphics arent really the best, though they are great, it still looks like the skaters faces have been smashed in with a sledge hammer, but you wont be looking at the faces too often, your eyes will be glued to the massive environment. This is the best part of the game, almost everything is at your footsteps to do what you wish.
Replay
You can never REALLY beat THUG, taking in that you have two player, online, story mode, park editor, board editor, and more. Replay value is a perfect 10/10 because there is so much to do, you can never get beat the game. The Tony Hawk series has a reputation to hold, solid gaming, killer sounds, and replay value. No other game on the market, will let you have so many options to optimize your game, no matter if your playing it for the first, or fifth time.
Final Thoughts
There isnt another skating game out there that can even touch THUG. Any TH 4 lover, should run to this title and start having fun immediately. I dont think I have played a game that has brought me this much joy since Star Wars. Play this game in any possible way, borrow it, buy it, or rent it, just get it.
