Bethesda Softworks has announced that Dorothy "D.C." Fontana and her partner Derek Chester have gotten together to work on the scripting for the two upcoming titles [i]Star Trek: Legacy[/i] for the Xbox360 and the PC and [i]Star Trek: Tactical Assault[/i] for the DS and PSP handhelds. Both games are slated to be out in time for the Star Trek 40th Anniversary this Fall.
[i]Star Trek: Legacy[/i] and [i]Star Trek: Tactical Assault[/i] should feature plenty of chances to squeeze in some interesting narratives. [i]Legacy[/i] is a real-time strategy game that with a massive single-player campaign that covers the continuity running from "Star Trek: Enterprise" to "Star Trek: The Next Generation". [i]Tactical Assault[/i] is a game that features the best part of the Star Trek franchise: space combat. It will be interesting to see D.C. Fontana's influence over the two games when they both arrive in stores.
For Trek fans, there are few writers more synonymous with the Star Trek universe than D.C. Fontana. D.C. has been attached as a writer, producer and script consultant to Star Trek practically from its inception. She penned some of the classic episodes of all time including the Original Series' "The Way to Eden" (featuring space hippies) and the Next Generation's pilot episode "Encounter at Farpoint". D.C. has also worked on popular science-fiction shows like "The Six-Million Dollar Man", "Logan's Run" and "Babylon 5" basically helping to create pop-culture memories for generations of science-fiction television fans.
