Wallace & Gromit is an arcade platform adventure where the player has to liberate the zoo from the evil clutches of the maniacal Feathers. Feathers wants to make diamonds. Lots of diamonds. And he’ll stop at nothing to achieve his dream. The diabolical penguin has incarcerated all the baby animals in order to persuade their parents to do his bidding and manufacture gems from the coal being mined using the incredible diamond-o-matic.
Graphics
I am a big fan of Wallace & Gromit and Aardman Animations and all they have done. The graphics for this game are well done, but I don?ft think that the full potential of the PS2 has been used. The game animations are brill with some very laughable character animations. All the essence of the character is in the game as well as some very well thought out level designs. The skins of Wallace and Gromit are well done with some real damn good rendering of their movements. There are some really good graphic effects that will wow and coo a lot of the younger generation.
The developer?fs of this title have really translated the characters well from clay to CG and it shows all the way through the game. All thumbs up for the graphics of this game and you may not be overly impressed with them but you will love them.
Game Play
Where oh where do I start. I’m Impressed, but that just isn’t the word to describe my love for this game. The game play is really good with only some very minor set backs that make the game come up a little short. The translation from joy pad to movement is really responsive and could easily be controlled by any child. It?fs in no way repetitive and there seems to be a lot drawn in from other games. Some of the levels remind me of the old PS1 and Solid Snake. This game is all about fun and laughter and represents that fact from start to the finish. I haven?ft laughed so much at a game in a long time.
The contraptions, which Wallace builds, are used throughout the game by Gromit are fantastic and very imaginative. The porridge gun had me in stitches when fired. The baby zoo animals are well animated as well as the main characters in the game.
The only problem with some parts of this game is the jumps that you have to execute are very difficult and may require a little help from some one who has played these type of games before, other wise the learning curve of the game is very good.
Sound
The sounds in this game are impressive. When played on a surround sound system the sounds are positively enthralling to the ears. All the music in the game represents the levels very well and the Atmosphere they create really help you get into the overall feel of the title. The in game voice overs are fantastic and build the character right up so you believe they really exist. All of Wallace?fs comments are well timed and will have you laughing your heads off.
Replay Value
There is so much to do and so much to find in this game. The replay value and longevity of this game make it a worthwhile buy. There are loads of sub games to find and lots of secrets throughout the game. It?fs a guarauntee that you will play this game over and over again.
Conclusion
Wallace & Gromit is a complete and utter laugh fest. The game has been well developed and has been put together in a way that would never let down the name of Aardman Animations. It was a pleasure to test out the game and had my self and my son enthralled for hours. This game is a must buy for the kids and the adults.
