When Microsoft officially opened up registration for the Halo 3 Beta, it opened the flood gates. Reportedly, more than 140,000 gamers visited Halo3.com within the first 24 hours of the site's opening, all with the same goal –become one of the first to play the highly anticipated shooter. The overwhelming response literally paralyzed the site, causing excruciatingly long wait times. Microsoft promised additional opportunities to participate in the beta.
Now, it appears that GamePro magazine has spilled the beans on one of those opportunities. The publication's latest issue features an ad for the upcoming Xbox 360 title, Crackdown with the text "Includes invitation to Halo 3 multiplayer beta." in the lower right corner.
Interestingly enough, the ad advertises that gamers who buy Crackdown will definitely receive an invitation, while those who registered at Halo3.com were doing so for a chance to receive an invitation.
Microsoft has given no official word regarding this or other future tie-ins.
